Middle Ridge State School is situated on the southern boundary of Toowoomba. There has been rapid change in this part of Toowoomba, with a number of residential subdivisions under construction over the last 10 years.
The school has a population of 658 from Preschool / Prep to Year 7. The school has sustained gradual growth over recent years. Middle Ridge State School is a complex urban Band 9 school, with a diverse population. The school community covers a wide range of socio-economic groups and parental expectations from the school community are high. More then 10% of the school's population bus daily from residential areas from the neighbouring Cambooya Shire. Our school enrolment is boosted by Australian Defence Force families who serve at several bases close to town at Oakey & Borneo Barracks near Cabarlah.
The Middle Ridge State School has an experienced teaching staff who provide a wide range of academic, cultural and sporting programs. The school is very well supported educationally and financially by an active P&C Association. Middle Ridge State School is an IDEAS school. Although our school is 124 years old this year, all buildings at the school are of recent construction with the majority of classrooms being of single storey, with all double classrooms featuring concertina doors. Due to an increase in the number of prep students the school has had classrooms for four new prep classes built.
The school is administered by a non-teaching Principal and Deputy Principal. The school has 33 classroom teachers, a Support Teacher for Learning Difficulties, Librarian, Music Teacher, Physical Education Teacher, Instrumental Teachers, LOTE teacher (Chinese Mandarin), Special Education Teacher and a Literacy Co-ordinator Teacher. The school also have a Guidance Officer (0.5), Advisory Visiting Teachers for Speech, Physical Impairment and English as a Second Language. Our school's workforce features 30% of our teachers who are permanent part-timers and job share. This has been a very positive situation for both students and teachers and has been a successful part of our culture for 10 years!
Middle Ridge State School provides a quality teaching and learning program across the 8 key learning areas for all students in Years P - 7. We cater for students with special needs through the development of fully integrated and resource school based programs. Our students are involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities and cultural programs.
Ancillary staff includes the Business Services Manager, 2 Administrative Officers, School Officer, 8 Teacher Aides, 1 Defence Force Teacher Aide and 3 Cleaners. We also have a number of voluntary teacher aides who are undergoing study for their Certificate 3 accreditation. This is of benefit to students, teachers and the trainees.
